Tours

We are happy to offer official tours for educational purposes here at Bison Ridge.

Contact us for booking. Availability changes week to week so please contact us with a requested day and we will work with you to try and make something work. Number of tours per week are limited. Tours will last about an hour to an hour and a half. Dress for the weather as the entire tour will take place outside. We have one bathroom on site available for use, please encourage students to use facilities before leaving the schools to decrease the demand for on farm facilities ;)

Parking: Lots of on farm parking for buses and vehicles

Cost: Flat rate of $150.00 per group. For groups 15+ the cost will increase by $10/person to a maximum of 40 people.

Directions to our farm. Or see the photo below.

The tours will take you out to pasture and get you up close to the animals. The ranch boss will explain our methods of raising the animals and farming practices to maintain a healthy ecosystem. We tour our corrals and walk the group through our handling system so they can see what it's like to be a bison! Lastly, the group will get a tour of our on farm abattoir and an age appropriate explanation of how we harvest the animals.

Feel free to bring picnic lunch and start or end your outing in our farm yard. Picnic area and tree house available for use at supervisors' own discretion.

Need educational resources to preview or wrap up the event in class? See the list below for some great resources.

Judith Silverstone has written a book titled "Honoring the Buffalo". Find some helpful teaching tools on her page linked below.

We encourage you to watch this short introductory video and write down any questions you might have. Pay attention during the tour to see if you get the answer, if not please ask!

We have a short activity book available that we will email the educators after booking the tour that can be printed and used for pre or post tour activities.

You can watch a quick documentary about bison in Saskatchewan that our farm was able to be apart of. It is part of a 3 season series called Flat Out Foods and created by Jen Sharp with the help of Halter Media. This link is only available if you are located within Saskatchewan through CityTV Saskatchewan. Click Here to watch.

Lastly, the 2023 SUNTEP class created some detailed lessons about bison. Please request these upon booking your tour. The target age is grade 5 and can be tailored to your class needs. This SUNTEP group also created a "Bison Suitcase" that can be rented through the Prince Albert museum. It is filled with bison artifacts, many from our farm, and detailed explanations about what the parts are used for.
